1. Attirampakkam is a Lower Paleolithic site in Tiruvallur district, situated on the Kortallaiyar River.
2. The earliest Acheulean evidence at Attirampakkam dates to about 1.5 million years BP, making it one of the earliest securely dated Acheulean sites outside Africa.
3. Robert Bruce Foote discovered Attirampakkam in 1863, considerably earlier than its modern chronological significance was established.
4. Attirampakkam's ancient environment is interpreted as a river floodplain with seasonal streams, favourable for early human habitation.
5. Its Acheulean tools are conclusively attributed to Homo erectus, since no other hominin species could have produced them.
